The problem

A school exam does not end when a student submits. It starts when the subject team decides what it wants to measure, runs through paper creation, session delivery, and marking, and finishes with reports that three different audiences each need to read differently.

Most online testing tools solve only the middle. The beginning and the end, which is where teachers spend the most time, stay outside the system.

Papers must follow a blueprint, not a random item pull
One exam spans several subjects and several response formats
Written subjects need a marking and review workflow, not just right or wrong
Teachers, parents, and students need three different reports

The approach

InterEdu built the system around the blueprint rather than around the item. The blueprint is where a subject team expresses its assessment intent, so it had to be the origin of the data flow, not a confirmation step at the end.

Permissions follow the real structure of a school: administrator, subject team, subject teacher, student, and parent, with each role seeing exactly the data that belongs to it.

The hard part

The exam session is the one moment in the system where a fault cannot be fixed afterwards. A student who loses connection mid-session cannot be asked to start again, so attempt state had to outlive the login session.

Student devices are not uniform either. A single session can run across lab desktops, personal laptops, and phones, on very different connections.

Attempt progress persisted to survive a temporary disconnection
Session resumed on a different device when necessary
Assessment interface working on both desktop and mobile
Submission state reconciled after the session closes

Outcome

A system covering the whole exam life cycle rather than only the sitting
Schools run several exam types on one piece of infrastructure
The process is standardized enough to be transferred to a school team
